About Todmorden Makery

Todmorden Makery is a community workshop for making, repairing, learning and sharing practical skills together. We are a member and volunteer supported space based in Todmorden, bringing together people interested in repair, reuse, creativity, digital skills and community learning.

The Makery grew from local repair cafe activities and a wider interest in creating a long-term shared workshop space where people could collaborate, learn informally and support each other through practical activity. Since starting in 2021, the project has developed into a busy community hub with regular drop-ins, workshops and repair sessions.

Our activities include:

  • Bike repair and maintenance
  • Electrical and household repairs
  • Textile repair and upcycling
  • Woodwork and tool sharing
  • Refurbishing computers and digital inclusion projects
  • Family workshops and creative technology activities
  • Community arts, crafts and making sessions

We believe that making and fixing things can help strengthen both communities and individual wellbeing. Repair and reuse reduce waste, encourage sustainability and help people feel more confident and capable in everyday life. The Makery is also a social space where people can meet others, exchange skills and work collaboratively.

Increasingly, we are interested in sharing projects, workshops and resources through open documentation so that ideas can be adapted and reused by other groups, educators and communities. We are especially interested in informal learning, intergenerational activity, sustainability and approaches that encourage participation and agency rather than passive consumption.

There are some interesting areas of growth at the moment the Bike repair activity is looking to really increase it’s level of activity.

Have a look at our projects page to see current and active projects, many of which are open to volunteers, collaborators and community participation. You may find something there that you would like to get involved with.

We are always interested in new volunteers, collaborators and partnerships. Whether you want to repair something, learn a new skill, share knowledge or help build local community projects, you are welcome to get involved.
